Signs you need

Most roofs give you warning before they fail. If you can check even one of these from the ground, it's worth having someone up there.

Curling, cupping or buckling shingles
Edges lifting off the deck mean the mat underneath has lost its grip. Wind finds those edges first.
Granules collecting in your gutters
Those dark grains are the shingle's sun protection. Once they're in the gutter, the asphalt is bare.
Daylight or water stains in the attic
If you can see light through the decking, water has already found the same path.
